Noise Viewer & Generator

The Noise Viewer & Generator tool allows you to preview any noise texture in your project as well as generate them.

A noise texture contains random values that are tileable meaning that they can be repeated in any direction without causing seams.

This is a generic tool in the sense that it can be used to generate any kind of noise texture that can be used in Voxel Play or any other project (the tool generates a .PNG texture file).

The typical use case is to generate one or more noise textures as part of a Terrain Generator. For example in the Multi-Step Terrain Generator one or more noise textures can be sampled and combined to generate complex heightmaps. The noise generator can also be used to produce the Moisture texture or any other texture you may need in your project.

To access the Noise Viewer & Generator tool select the top menu "Assets" -> "Create" -> "Voxel Play" -> "Noise Generator".

To view the contents of an existing noise texture just drag & drop the texture in the Noise Texture field. The maximum and minimum values found in the noise texture will be displayed.

Customize the number of octaves (series of values) that will be combined, amplitude and frequency until you get a likely result - then click "Create Texture Asset" to generate the noise texture.

Voxel Play already includes some noise textures you can use as a base for your terrain generator. The noise textures are included in the world demo folders inside Voxel Play / Resources / VoxelPlay/Worlds/Earth/Noise folder.
